Overall Impression: Both melodically mature and harmonically exciting throughout, PanaMO/OB Succari's fantastic Latin-Jazz composition "Vicky" bears all the trademarks that you could possibly hope to find in a scintillating Latin-infused jazz piece, complete with invigorating performances, colorful melodies, and a tantalizing sense of musicality that helps make for one thoroughly enjoyable listening experience. Melodies bounce off one another with a quirky sense of character whilst the personality-filled harmonic progressions ensure listeners are never short of musical intrigue, add in the technique-rich performances and you have a jazz piece that you can't help but fall in love with.
Strongest Point(s): As with any piece of instrumental music, melody and effective thematic development are paramount, serving as one of the main key factors to whether or not we as an audience can feel fully engaged with the many musical ideas that are being presented to us. There must be a feeling of cohesiveness to the writing in order for a listener to strongly connect with it, and having listened to "Vicky" a few times now, it's clearly apparent that whilst I found myself discovering exciting new elements on every subsequent listen, the general flavor and connective tissue that held all of the compositions many inspired ideas together felt instantly recognizable and most importantly, fully developed. Whether it'd be the fascinating way in which the song's main themes are expertly fragmented or subtly modified, or the dazzling manner in which the various areas of the instrumentation interact with one another, every jazz flute line, trumpet phrase, percussive fill, and flash of piano extravagance gives listeners an experience that is positively bursting with deeply mature writing, virtuosic performances, and a tasteful arrangement that's firing on all cylinders.
Target Audience Appeal: "Vicky" is an excellent Latin-Jazz track and I'm sure fans of the genre will strongly connect with it.
