Anastasia Koss - You Better Talk
Pop, Mandopop
New York, United States
Overall Impression: With a relatable lyrical theme at its core and a strong vocal performance conveying it, Anastasia Koss's chilled "You Better Talk" is both a pleasant and easy-to-engage-with piece of pop songwriting that is both well-produced and well-written. "You Better Talk" effectively explores the theme of acceptance, more specifically, the power to move on, and whilst we can't help but yearn for some form of closure and an adequate sense of conclusion with regard to the unfortunate ending of a relationship, we sadly not always granted that privilege and can find ourselves holding onto that last very nugget of misguided optimism for dear life. I think it's safe to say we've all experienced this want for closure at some point in our lives and it's this that helps make "You Better Talk" feel both grounded and strongly relatable, and once you add in Anastasia's brilliant vocal performance, a richly detailed arrangement, and polished radio-friendly pop production, you get a well-crafted tune that many a music lover can appreciate.
Strongest Point(s): At the forefront of any great pop tune is a performance that listeners can easily rally behind and it goes without saying that Anastasia most definitely brings a certain down-to-earth quality to the track that not only heightens its undeniable relatability but allows "You Better Talk" to feel intimate with regards to the way it's gently presented to the listener. Displaying both great tonal range and timbrally pleasing qualities, Anastasia gives a very strong performance that listeners will find both thoroughly engaging and terrifically charming. "You Better Talk" also manages to strike a great balance between its use of both live and electronic sounds, it can be somewhat of a tightrope to effectively combine acoustic instruments with electronic elements without one aspect of the arrangement overpowering the other, yet, "You Better Talk" feels sonically well-rounded and whether it'd be the tonally pleasing qualities of both electric and acoustic guitar, the well-implemented electronic percussive and bass elements, or the exciting vocal layering, this is an arrangement that compliments both Anastasia's compelling vocal presence and strong lyric writing.
Target Audience Appeal: "You Better Talk" is a solid piece of pop songwriting and I can certainly see it appealing to fans of contemporary pop.
Artist target suggestions: Clara Mae, Josie Dunne, Ivy Adara, Hailee Steinfeld, Ed Sheeran, Beren Olivia, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Emily James, Violet Skies, Brynn Elliot, Savannah Sgro, Daya
