BloodHut - Mind & Body
Alternative/Alt. Rock, Indie, Psychedelic
California, United States

Overall Impression: With a strikingly bold sense of creativity running through its veins and a compelling theme at its heart, BloodHut's engrossing "Mind & Body" serves as a rather poignant comment on one's anxieties and how the power of perseverance and self-determination can be utilized to overcome those fears. I've always felt that knowing the true inspiration behind a song allows the listener to better connect with its themes, and it's clear to hear that the distinctly expressive ideas that are found within "Mind & Body" have been specifically crafted in order to best represent the underlying emotions that power the track. Whether it'd be the feelings of uncertainty that surround the future or the simple fear of the unknown that we all find ourselves experiencing at certain points in our lives, "Mind & Body" effectively aims to explore these feelings and presents listeners with a thought-provoking listening experience that both intrigues and challenges.

Strongest Point(s): There's a certain off-kilter quality to the music that I believe works extremely well in fortifying the song's themes, there's a push-pull dynamic within the music that effectively hints at this battle between feelings of anxiety and contentedness. Take the use of dissonance in the opening for example, whilst a strong key center is established with the help of the Hammond organ and its undeniably warm and sultry tonal characteristics, this is juxtaposed with some particularly atmospheric vocal layers that at times momentarily step out of key to create a brief flash of dissonance which in itself creates a slight feeling of anxiousness in its listeners. The arrangement is most certainly a compelling one and some fantastic textures have been created through the song's diverse instrumentation and effective layering of harmonic and melodic ideas, from the expansive collection of synth sounds to the excellent layering of reverbs and vocal parts, "Mind & Body" feels like an ethereal musical journey that conjures up a myriad of emotions within its listeners.

Target Audience Appeal: I can certainly see "Mind & Body" appealing to the alternative/indie lovers.

Artist target suggestions: Radiohead, Local Natives, Small Black, King Gizzard & The Lizard, Art of Sleeping, Moses Gun Collective, MGMT, Mild High Club, Mac DeMarco, The Growlers
