Josephine - My Mother's Eyes
Alternative/Alt. Rock, Indie Pop, Spiritual
GREYMOUTH, New Zealand
Overall Impression: "MY MOTHERS EYES" is a hauntingly beautiful new release from the New Zealand based singer/songwriter, known simply as Josephine. Recorded on 8-track in a local church, this indie folk-pop track features a lo-fi aesthetic that does well to enhance the raw emotion inherent in the tune as Josephine explores the love of an adult child for their aging mother. With a delicate arrangement consisting of piano and various stringed instruments that wonderfully compliments her lilting soprano, Josephine's "MOTHERS EYES" should resonate strongly with both folk and indie pop audiences alike.
Strongest Point(s): Nice D.I.Y. production, good tonal balance to the mix. Great atmosphere and intimate energy. Terrific instrumentation, every instrument is quite essential here and has an important role in the arrangement. Striking melody, incredibly captivating. The lively, rolling rhythm helps to engage the listener even further. Crystalline vocals, you have a lovely timbre to your voice. Very personal and heartfelt lyrical content that should be universally relatable among audiences of a certain age. Overall, it's an incredibly touching song that was a pleasure to review. Great job by everyone involved!
