The I.C.O.N. - Forsaken
Hip Hop/Rap, Pop
Washington, United States

Overall Impression: With its well-crafted lyrics, a strong sense of melody, and solid performances, "Forsaken" is a refreshing foray back to Hip-Hops stripped-back roots, casting both great focus and emphasis on the intimate relationship between the lyrics and performer. With the music being heavily inspired by U2's "New Years Day, "The I.C.O.N.(The International Champ Of Night) has done a fantastic job of respectfully paying tribute to the original source material whilst injecting his own sense of musical identity into the mix, this can be a hard aspect to balance but it's done very well here indeed. The lyrics have that quintessential socially charged bite that is synonymous with the Hip-Hop genre and The I.C.O.N. clearly draws from his own experiences growing up in the Bronx, not only do the lyrics and performances feel both wholly authentic and close to the heart, but will instantly be relatable to many a listener. "Forsaken" is an honest and passion-filled insight into the trials and tribulations faced by many young people growing up under difficult circumstances, but more importantly, the track acts as a beacon of hope, proving that creativity and music has a definite positive power, The I.C.O.N. is a great example of what can be achieved with both perseverance and hard work.

Strongest Point(s): Serving as the heart and soul of the track, the lyrics have that undeniable relatability to them, a level of relatability and honesty that many listeners will connect with on a deep level. In recent times, the Hip-hop genre has been somewhat in danger of losing sight of its roots and humble beginnings, with labels pushing for a more style over substance aesthetic that often undermines the artist's original creative vision and voice. It's great to hear that The I.C.O.N. is taking things back to basics, with a solid focus on themes and an emphasis on truthful insight. The U2 influence is a fantastic touch and acts as a clear showcase for The I.C.O.N.'s broad musical inspirations, and the way the main melody has been successfully translated to a traditionally synth-based Hip-Hop melody is excellent. These solid ideas are brought to life by strong performances that capture the intricacies of the writing marvelously, ensuring the lyrics are represented in the most impactful way possible.

Target Audience Appeal: "Forsaken" is a strong Hip-Hop tune and I'm sure lovers of the genre will find themselves connecting with it.

Artist target suggestions: Dr. Dre, Eminem, DMX, 2Pac, Warren G, N.W.A. The Game, Drake, The Notorious B.I.G. Mobb Deep, Kanye West, Scarface, Method Man, ICE-T, Westside Connection, Snoop Dog, J. Cole
