Big T and Janet - Not So Easy Street
Christian/Gospel, Country Gospel, Southern Gospel
Georgia, United States
Overall Impression: Having previously reviewed the equally uplifting and wonderfully pleasant "When I Couldn't Find Jesus" by strong songwriting team Big T and Janet, I had a particularly overwhelming feeling that they would once again deliver the goods in their new country rocker "Not So Easy Street", and thankfully, I was resoundingly right! Big T and Janet have done it yet again, serving up a fantastically catchy and feel-good track that sweeps you up and implores you to join in on the fun. As to be expected from this talented group of musicians, the performances are exceptional, the clear chemistry between one another is infectiously inspiring, and when this is combined with the song's stellar arrangement and profound sense of vigor and spirit, the results are truly magical.
Strongest Point(s): Despite the rhythmically and melodically upbeat nature of the track, Big T and Janet still manage to effectively convey the deeply poignant and important message at the heart of the song, the lyrics cover some particularly deep themes, yet the decision to encase these in a more accessible track works extremely well, allowing listeners to connect with them far easier when within a more positive context. The arrangement is richly layered and densely packed with a diverse variety with regards to instrumentation, offering listeners an abundance of sonic intrigue for them to sink their teeth into. I would also like to point out that the lead guitar work is phenomenal and injects some mightily tasty melodic spice into the track, I particularly like the harmonized embellishments that are used at the end of certain phrases, such as at 1:58.
Target Audience Appeal: Lovers of Christian and gospel-infused country rock will love what "Not So Easy Street" has to offer.
Artist target suggestions: Zach Williams, David Crowder Band, Kris Kristofferson, Alan Jackson, Alabama, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Randy Travis, George Strait, Chris Stapleton
