Kenny DesChamp - Get Out!
Alternative/Alt. Rock, Rock
Peterborough, Canada
Overall Impression: With its contemplative lyrical themes, wildly inventive nature, and fascinating fusing of styles, "Get Out!" is a highly creative and wonderfully adventurous foray into the forever exciting and intriguing world of prog-rock that serves as a deeply original sounding and vividly arranged piece of writing that isn't afraid to take risks and throw convention out of the window in order to find its own unique sense of identity. Kenny DesChamp combines gloriously quirky vocalizations with an effective and accomplished sense of melody, taking listeners on a cosmic-fueled journey that's filled with dazzling melodic flair, wildly imaginative vocal layering's, and an undeniably compelling sense of musicality.
Strongest Point(s): Acting as the predominant driving force behind the arrangement, the vocals exhibit a profoundly quirky and unique edge that makes great use of effects in order to present the lyrics in continually intriguing ways, whether it'd be the way they are interestingly arranged through the use of octave layering or extreme pitch-shifting, this particular element of the track helps give it its definite unique edge. The whole tone section certainly adds further intrigue to the arrangement and provides an effective and striking amount of contrast to the sections that both precede and follow. The whole tone scale is by no means an easy scale to navigate due to its lack of recognizable key center, however, it's handled well here and certainly helps take the music into rather unnerving territory. This use of sustained tension, if resolved effectively, can really help add further excitement to an arrangement by playing with listener's expectations, keeping them on their toes if it were, the moment when the music resolves into a more stable state will prove to be far more effective, and that's exactly what happens when the music returns to its stable state at 5:10.
Target Audience Appeal: Lovers of prog-rock will undoubtedly find "Get Out!" to be a highly rewarding experience, the sheer creativity on display is staggering
Artist target suggestions: King Crimson, The Alan Parsons Project, Yes, Genesis, Camel, Omega, Mike Oldfield, Renaissance, DejaVu, Decameron, Rush, Gentle Giant
