Alicja-pop - Yellow Moon
Rock, Indie Rock, Garage Rock
Tennessee, United States
Overall Impression: "Yellow Moon" is a compelling new release from Tennessee based artist Alicja-pop. This indie track recalls the sounds of the popular female-fronted alternative rock bands of the 1990s, with its lo-fi textures, dreamy melodies, lush vocal harmonies, and contrasting guitar tones that create the wonderful dynamic shifts associated with the era. "Yellow Moon" explores feelings of solitude and anxiety that can ultimately manifest themselves as insomnia, and does so in an efficiently poetic fashion. Highlighted by proficient guitar work, solid songwriting, and strong vocal performances with heightened melodic sensibilities, Alicja-pop's "Yellow Moon" should have a certain appeal among today's indie rock enthusiasts, and will particularly resonate well with those who came of age in the nostalgic 90s.
Strongest Point(s): Great production, definitely has a DIY aesthetic that is appropriate for the genre. Excellent song structure. Good guitar tones that compliment each other nicely. Some nice riffs at play here. Solid straight ahead rock groove. The vocal production really stood out to me, outstanding sound there; properly EQ'd with just the right amount of reverb. Stellar vocal performances, gorgeous harmonies and a nice back and forth in the choruses. Evocative lyrics, vivid imagery with tremendous prose. Overall, it's a terrific indie pop/rock song that should connect with listeners on multiple levels thanks to its raw and intimate emotional nature. Great job, all around!
