Rhoten - Coming for you
Rock, Alternative, Indie
California, United States

Overall Impression: Embodying the classic sound of British indie alternative, "Coming For You" is an excellent love letter to the genre, and whilst Rhoten proudly wears his influences on his sleeve, he still manages to inject the track with his own unique musicality. "Coming For You" contains that quintessential grit and against the grain mentality that the indie alternative style is so synonymous with and with its unapologetically forthcoming lyrics and grainy aesthetic, it manages to capture the spirit of the genre resoundingly well, all the while doing so with an incredible sense of melody to boot.

Strongest Point(s): In a time when artists are having to tread rather carefully as to not risk certain connotations in their lyrics being misconstrued, it can be somewhat of a tricky minefield when navigating certain lyrical themes. Lyrics such as these that are based around the idea of a man lusting over a woman could be seen as "risky" in this day and age, but the indie genre has never been one to shy away from such things, and it's clear Rhoten is aware of this. The arrangement is particularly strong and the way the track has been layered helps create a great distinction between its various sections, as well as strengthen them profusely. By keeping the instrumentation bare in the verses and subtly adding further textural layers on the lead-up to the chorus helps heighten its impact significantly and really gives the track its sense of great natural flow.

Target Audience Appeal: Lovers of the alternative and indie rock genres will appreciate what "Coming For You" has to offer.

Artist target suggestions: The Stone Roses, The Charlatans, The Verve, Radiohead, Kasabian, Lifehouse, Manic Street Preachers, The Seahorses, Inspiral Carpets, Happy Mondays, Ocean Colour Scene, Northside
