Darren Jaynoy - Colour Thief
Rock, Pop
Tumut, Australia
Overall Impression: Hearkening back to the imaginary epics of classic rock, Darren Jaynoy's Colour Thief captures a sense of mysterious foreboding and presents it with brilliant narrative flow! The character of the Colour Thief is ominous, and Jaynoy's relaxed vocals skillfully pull listeners into the rich harmonic setting, warning against letting the title character near them. Clever storytelling mingles with masterful instrumental arrangement to create a fully immersive, albeit dark, soundscape for listeners to lose themselves in.
Strongest Point(s): The opening strings are gorgeous, and the arpeggiation really sets the stage for the drama. The guitar tone is lovely - really classic sound for this sort of work. Love the way the different instrumental entrances carry on the rolling arpeggios before the overdriven guitar comes in. The section at 2:27 is exciting, and the vocal approach there energizes the break before the guitar solo well. Great songwriting!
Target Audience Appeal: Fans of classic storytelling song work will love what Darren Jaynoy has done with Colour Thief - the sounds used for the song are endearing to those that loved the titans of the genre, and the originality in character development and world-building is enough to hook listeners from all kinds of backgrounds. This is really great work! Thanks for submitting it. - Jon W.
Artist target suggestions: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Eagles, The Who, Rush, Fleetwood Mac, Lynrd Skynyrd, Dire Straits, Dream Theater, The Doors, James Bay
