Lucid Dreaming - Station
Alternative/Alt.Rock, Rock
California, United States

Overall Impression: California based band Lucid Dreaming deliver a melodic rocker, with their release of "Station." Propulsive drumming, powerful vocals, superb musicianship, and intelligent songwriting are the hallmarks of this group, who played extensively in the Los Angeles area during the 90s. "Station" is a fine example of these traits. Opening with a quirky, mixed meter acoustic guitar riff that quickly gives way to a driving backbeat, followed by lead singer Fernando Paez's impassioned vocals. Scintillating lead guitar, played by the late Jonas Peterson, adds a gritty blues rock edge here, filling in the gaps with wonderful tone and ferocity. Rock enthusiasts should find a lot to like about Lucid Dreaming's "Station", especially those with a fondness for the music of the late 1990s.

Strongest Point(s): Outstanding production, excellent mix. Great intro riff that comes back around out of the bridge, love the tricky time signature and grouping. Drums sound fantastic, great driving beat. Tambourine contributes a lot in that department also. Harmonica was a nice touch, because after all, what's a train song without a harmonica? Lead guitar sounds amazing, excellent tone and musicianship. Solid vocal performance, I really like the two-part harmonies and call and response. Structurally, it's a great arrangement, with excellent harmonic variation between the verse and chorus. Personally, I've always been a fan of the "fade out on the guitar solo" as a method of ending a good rock song, it's a classic device. Overall, great song played with excellent energy, very nice track.
