Jonathan Grow - Les Trois Vies de Marie-Laure
Classical, Instrumental, Film Score
Tennessee, United States
Overall Impression: "Les Trois Vies de Marie-Laure" is a delicately cerebral work for solo piano, composed by Jonathan Grow. Recalling the great early 20th century minimalist composers, Grow emphasizes melody here, with the harmonies simply illuminating the sparse yet gorgeous top line for the majority of the piece. Simplicity, repetition, and shifting modal tonalities are the hallmarks of "Les Trois Vies de Marie-Laure", and the work is performed here with a great touch and musicality. Classical music enthusiasts should definitely check out Jonathan Grow's "Les Trois Vies de Marie-Laure" particularly those with a fondness for the more meditative side of 20th century minimalism.
Strongest Point(s): Excellent production, nice recording and mix. Outstanding performance, love the way this piece breathes. Absolutely beautiful melody, and the major seventh tonality always sparks a certain sense of wonder and self reflection. Lovely arrangement. The middle section provides a wonderful counter to the main theme, both harmonically and rhythmically, and is played with great passion and intensity. Interesting cadence at the very end of the piece. Definitely a well thought out composition, and an impeccable performance that brings it to life. Fantastic work, start to finish.
