Jeff Mailfert - Trecolpas
Folk, Pop, Soul
Paris, France
Overall Impression: Managing to effortlessly blend elements of folk and indie together with great nuance and delicacy, Jeff Mailfert gives a highly emotive and deeply reflective performance that is lovingly crafted and steeped in both lyrical and musical poignancy. "Trecolpas" is an outstanding folk piece that combines superb performances with a melody-filled and multi-layered arrangement that will whisk you up in its deeply rich texture and gently carry you from start to finish.
Strongest Point(s): Where to begin? The lyrics are filled with a staggering amount of depth, and I'll be honest and say that I was sincerely moved by them. The message that underpins them is certainly an important one, especially in these rather uncertain and anxiety-inducing times. Being able to stand back, close our eyes, and simply absorb the positive energy that nature so lovingly grants us is something that many of us are losing the capability to do, and Jeff manages to encapsulate this certain feeling of calm and serenity effortlessly. The lyrics are graceful and Jeff's vocal style is both soothing and saturated in a mature sense of understatement that perfectly fits this style of song. The instrumentation is stellar and offers an abundance of variation in both tone and timbre, helping to craft a deeply rich and textured arrangement that is thoroughly engaging. From the soft percussive elements that underlay the track to the careful interweaving of both acoustic and electric instruments, there is a broad range of sounds on display. Wonderfully textured, beautifully written and arranged, and superbly performed, "Trecolpas" is a fantastic listening experience from start to finish and I look forward to hearing more from Jeff Mailfert in the very near future.
Target Audience Appeal: This is a fantastic example of what the folk genre has to offer, and lovers of the style will surely find themselves connecting with "Trecolpas".
Artist target suggestions: Ben Howard, Bob Dylan, Fleet Foxes, The Antlers, Bon Iver, The Paper Kites, Lord Huron, James Vincent McMorrow, Vance Joy, Houndmouth, Kodaline, Passenger, Jose Gonzales
