Orville Stoeber - Miracles
Alternative/Alt.Rock, Singer/Songwriter, Poetry
California, United States
Overall Impression: Incredibly moving and profound in its themes, "Miracles" is a deeply accomplished folk tune that glides effortlessly through its fascinating and strikingly mature harmonic movements and detailed melodic embellishments. Orville Stoeber has put together a wonderfully reflective and soothing piece of songwriting that you can't help but get swept up in. This is folk at its most refined and introspective, and charming for that matter.
Strongest Point(s): The lyrics and lead vocals are both incredibly strong, and if there is one defining trait of folk music, it's the delicate interaction between the vocalist and lyrics they are conveying, there is a particular level of intimacy between these two elements that I find to be at its most profound in the folk genre, and "Miracles" is a great example of this. Orville has handled this relationship with great nuance and you can't help but feel deeply connected with the music as a result. The chord progression that underlies the piece is superb and is filled with a great amount of both harmonic variation and sophistication, I particularly like the classical influence that can be heard within the progression and it adds a nice touch of contrast throughout. The subtle backing vocals that are interspersed throughout are also an excellent choice, they add a delicate yet significant amount of interesting tonal shades to the overall texture of the track whilst providing extra strength to the already excellent lead vocals.
Target Audience Appeal: "Miracles" is an excellent folk piece and lovers of the genre will appreciate Orville Stoeber's songwriting prowess.
Artist target suggestions: Nick Drake, Cat Stevens, Simon & Garfunkel, Jim Croce, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Ben Howard, Dan Fogelberg, Steve Howe, Ray Wilson
