Fyerfly - Caught Up
Sadcore, Indie Rock
Austrailia

Overall Impression: Elegantly arranged and superbly performed, "Caught Up" is a strikingly beautiful piece of songwriting that gracefully glides through its delicate themes with both great sophistication and the utmost decorum. Displaying her delicately nuanced and wonderfully ethereal vocal style with a great level of calm and assuredness, Fyerfly dazzles with a wonderful level of understatement that finely weaves her undeniable lyrical prowess with a striking level of poetic poignancy, the result is a tremendously captivating journey of reflection that whisks you up in its arm and gently carries you from beginning to end.

Strongest Point(s): Wonderfully smooth and delicately intimate in nature, it goes without saying that the lead vocal performance is utterly enthralling. Showcasing marvelous tonal and dynamic control, Fyerfly expresses the equally inspired lyrics with both deft precision and an abundance of heart, all the while being accompanied by a group of equally superb musicians who do a wonderful job of crafting a rich and deeply textured soundscape for Fyerfly's vocals to effortlessly glide over. The rhythmic backbone of the piece is brilliantly handled by percussionist Andy Sylvio, whose skillful light touch lends itself well to the soft and sultry nature of the track whilst producer/bassist Jonathan Zions does an excellent job of filling out the texture with a subdued bass style that matches the songs somber undertones. The beautiful chord progression that underlies "Caught Up" is well taken care of by pianist Luke Howard, whose gentle and highly expressive playing further heightens the tracks ambient quality along with Claude Carranza's exquisite guitar playing. Highly tasteful and managing to further inject the track with extra sprinkles of flair, Claude's articulate manner is thoroughly engaging and he masterfully treats each and every note with equal importance, ensuring every melodic flourish has something meaningful to say. "Caught Up" is a track that requires both your patience and attentiveness, it requires you to let yourself get fully absorbed by its melancholic nature and contemplative themes, most of all it requires you to simply listen to what it has to say. Excellent work!

Target Audience Appeal: "Caught Up" encompasses the sadcore genre brilliantly, and lovers of alternative will find a staggering amount of depth within the track.
