Frederick Wilfert - Tell Me I'm The Only One
Alt. Rock, Rock, Ballads
Virginia, United States

Overall Impression: Wonderfully charming and pleasantly feel-good in nature, "Tell Me I'm The Only One" is a terrific folk piece that combines solid performances with assured songwriting prowess. Frederick Wilfert tells a tender and heartwarming tale of love and companionship that is instantly relatable and brimming with genuine sincerity, the result is a thoroughly pleasant listening experience that captures the spirit of folk perfectly.

Strongest Point(s): As with any great folk piece, a strong unity between the lyrics and vocalist is a common staple, and managing to establish this delicate bond is an integral part of creating both a relatable and memorable piece of songwriting that the listener can really engage with. Frederick clearly understands this and has managed to craft a charming and honest tune that combines inspired lyric writing with excellent performances that contain both a great amount of character and personality. The track is filled with some great little details that help to keep the listener continually invested throughout, as an example, backing vocals are used but in a smartly subdued way, meaning that when they are eventually introduced their impact has a far greater impact. Another particularly strong element is how subtle changes to the instrumentation are incorporated to help delicately change the texture, whether it'd be the addition of a shaker/clapping to add subtle percussive elements to the track or the excellent double stops that are layered on top of the rhythm guitar in places, it's small details such as these that can have a significant impact on the overall arrangement. "Tell Me I'm The Only One" is a marvelous little folk tune and I hope to hear more from Frederick Wilfert in the very near future!

Target Audience Appeal: This is definitely a tune for folk lovers.

Artist target suggestions: Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, Nick Drake, Simon & Garfunkel, Jim Croce, Neil Young, George Harrison, John Mellencamp, Dan Fogelberg, James Taylor, Van Morrison, Jackson Browne, Loggins & Messina
