Fast Cars - Trouble
Pop, Rock, Dance

Overall Impression: With its wonderfully inspired Easter egg-filled lyrics and fantastic performances, "Trouble" is a brilliantly conceived alternative rocker that fuses a multi-layered arrangement with accomplished songwriting. Fast Cars know the genre well and have whipped up a vividly detailed track that is both a love letter to the classic songs it references as well as a wholly unique sounding tune that is simply terrific fun from beginning to end.

Strongest Point(s): The lyrics are certainly a standout and it was a joy hearing all the references contained within them, it gives the track a great sense of genre awareness as well as a level of maturity that well-seasoned music lovers will surely appreciate. The inspired lyrics are strengthened by a superb lead vocal performance that is full of both great conviction and personality. Along with the usual rock staples of guitar, bass, and drums, the addition of brass is a wild but extremely effective choice and adds a great amount of tonal variety throughout, the keys build on this further and provide further layers to the arrangement, resulting in a texturally rich track that has plenty for listeners to experience. There is also a particular rawness to the mix that I think works extremely well, giving the song a slightly rough and gritty aesthetic that pairs nicely with the attitude-laden vocals, it also helps the track fit nicely within the alternative rock styles that commonly adopt an edgier production style.

Target Audience Appeal: "Trouble" is a solid alternative rock track and lovers of the genre will surely find a lot to love about it.

Artist target suggestions: Palehound, Potty Mouth, Blondie, Summer Cannibals, Press Club, Metric, Tired Lion, The Go-Go's, The Courtneys, Garbage, Hole
