Smokehowl - Finding Shelter
Alternative/Alt. Rock, Folk, Rock
Michigan, United States
Overall Impression: Known to some Michigan music lovers on the scene as a Northern Michigan " Supergroup" Smokehowl has created a presence and name for themselves for creating original music that is through a collaborative effort where all band members bring their ideas, influences and expertise. In contributing and crafting songs that span across and combine various genres, it also enables the band to appeal to a wide range of listeners in various age ranges and genres as well. From a classically trained guitarist with a heavy, jazz influence to heavy metal, a drumming prodigy and an encyclopedia of music, Smokehowl has created a unique sound all their own. With their latest single "Finding Shelter" Smokehowl has created a blend of country, folk and blues that's easygoing, easy-listening song that you just makes you want to sit back, relax and take it all in.
Strongest Point(s): The band's vocals have definitely honed in on a signature sound, but perhaps the highlight or standout is the band's tight instrumental performance. The sounds of the guitar and bass's rich, country, bluesy and soulful chords are complemented by the singer's raspy, smoky voice. Instrumentally, the guitar and bass feed off of each other, creating a beautiful, bright melody. The drums are subtle but noticeable, with the song's somber lyrics, the melody in contrast gives it balance and makes it a song of triumph, and redemption.
Target Audience Appeal: For fans of Alternative, Alt-rock, easy-listening, folk, folk-rock, and blues.
