Overall Impression: Combining brilliantly understated performances and a wonderfully uplifting lyrical theme that you can't help but resonate with, "Another Day" is a marvelous folk tune by singer-songwriter Scott Jackson that is both well-written and well-arranged. There is an undeniably calming nature to "Another Day" that is certainly welcome in these rather uncertain times, and Scott does a very fine job of evoking an overwhelming feeling of peace and tranquility with his soothing vocal delivery and delicately arranged musical backing.
Strongest Point(s): The lyrics and vocal performance are certainly the heart and soul of the piece, and whilst the inclusion of piano and accordion, alongside the usual folk staple of acoustic guitar, is definitely a great way to thicken out the texture and add tonal variation, the way the track focuses so strongly on the interaction between the lead vocals and the lyrics they are singing, helps create a certain feeling of intimacy between the performer and listener, and as is the case with the most engaging of folk songs, this usually tends to be the case. There is also a great emphasis on melody, from the well-placed piano flourishes to the subtle lead acoustic guitar motifs, there is a brilliant amount of interplay between the songs various instruments, and I particularly like how melodic themes are passed around the instruments by means of call and response, for example, the chord sequence heard at 2:40 in the piano and rhythm guitar is answered by the lead acoustic guitar playing the scalic version directly after, it's little touches like this that really go a long way and ensure the listener is kept continually engaged from start to finish.
Target Audience Appeal: This is definitely a track for lovers of folk, as with any great folk tune, strong lyrics, and subtle nuanced performances form the basis of "Another Day", and the end result is a tremendously pleasant listening experience.
