Greg Finch - I Just Ask God To Take It Away
Christian/Gospel, Country, Bluegrass
Tennessee, United States
Overall Impression: With its poignant lyrical themes, fantastic arrangement, and superb performances, "I Just Ask God To Take It Away" is a deeply emotive piece of songwriting that clearly comes straight from the heart. Based on a true story, Greg Finch has put together a strikingly reflective track that portrays a heartbreaking tale of abandonment, grief, and perseverance, I can honestly say I was sincerely moved by this track and Greg has done a very fine job of handling such a delicate subject matter.
Strongest Point(s): Let's begin with the brilliantly written lyrics, not only are they steeped in emotion and heartfelt sentiment, but they are thoroughly engaging from start to finish. The performances are excellent, the lead vocals handle the lyrics with great delicacy and feeling and the musical backing that accompanies is very well arranged, from the strong rhythmic backbone, courtesy of the percussion, bass, and acoustic guitar, to the excellent lap steel that's sprinkled throughout, this is a richly textured backing that provides a strong harmonic and melodic canvas for the lead vocals to flow over. Solid production and a strong overall mix nicely round off the track, all elements in the mix are clear and evenly spaced, resulting in a warm-sounding recording that is a pleasure to listen to.
Target Audience Appeal: Country lovers will undoubtedly connect with this track, strong lyrics and brilliant performances are staples of the genre, and this song delivers on those elements tenfold.
Artist target suggestions: Toby Keith, John Michael Montogomery, Kenny Rogers, Red Sovine, Vince Gill, Johnny Cash, Crosby, Stills & Nash, James Taylor, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, John Denver, George Jones
