Overall Impression: Managing to effortlessly blend folk and country together with both a terrifically refined songwriting style and a keen eye for melodic detail, "Rhythm Is Your Gold " is a cleverly arranged and deftly-produced track that boasts an incredible amount of heart and soul. Friends From a Distance offers up a great listening experience that's chock full of upbeat rhythms, ample character, and most importantly, an abundance of undeniable charm. Great work!
Strongest Point(s): The lyrics are an absolute joy to follow, there's a great deal of depth and poignancy contained within them and make for an incredibly engaging listening experience. It's common knowledge that the folk genre is renowned for its deeply thematic lyrical edge, and that trait is on full display here. The lyrics are given further weight by a brilliantly understated lead vocal performance that does a marvelous job of bringing them to life. Speaking of the performances, they are nothing short of excellent. Everyone is really on their A-game and there's a great sense of synergy between all the musicians, the result is a brilliantly refined and assured performance that is thoroughly engaging from start to finish. The instrumentation is wonderfully diverse and offers up a plethora of tonal and timbral variations. As well as reinforcing the track's obvious folk and country influences, such additions like the fiddle and accordion add heaps of personality to the arrangement as well as build upon the song's deeply rich and warm texture. Lastly, the production and overall mix are very strong, the track boasts a high level of clarity and sonic detail that ensures all the subtle nuances of the performances and writing are easily picked up on
