Overall Impression: "Breaking All the Rules" is the latest release from Seattle based RnB singer/songwriter, Ro'Nae. Drawing inspiration from her love for 90s pop and RnB, and then applying modern production techniques and thoughtful beat design, Ro'Nae has managed to create an end product that sounds just as fresh as it does familiar. "Breaking All the Rules" features a slinky, jazzy guitar sample that plays over an uptempo hip hop groove, complete with bombastic 808 bass reinforcing the kicks. A wonderfully catchy hook highlights the topline melody, and gives Ro'Nae the perfect jumping off point for her skilled and soulful vocal performance. Ro'Nae's "Breaking All the Rules" should certainly appeal to contemporary RnB fans, and could also find some crossover success with a more pop oriented audience as well.
Strongest Point(s): Outstanding production, excellent mix. Great guitar samples. Very kinetic beat, drives the song nicely. The 808s really fill out the bottom. Nice variation to the arrangement. The bass guitar adds a nice element to the low mids, and provides almost a counter melody that really works well here. Vocals sound fantastic. There's a beautiful timbre to your voice, especially in your upper register. While this song sits squarely in the realm of RnB, it does have a nice pop quality to it, which should help broaden your audience. Overall, very solid work here. Nicely done!
