Rémy & Alberte - People Are The Same
Alternative/Alt. Rock, Dreampop
Roskilde, Denmark
Overall Impression: With an airy guitar and ethereal singing, Rémy & Alberte have given us a Dream pop gift with People Are The Same. This nostalgic shoegaze track brings us memories of the heydays of bands like Lush and Blonde Redhead, with its dreamy synth-pop and melodic echoing guitars. For those who love or miss the alternative scene and indie pop rock, People Are The Same has come along to give us all the feelings and swaying with this haunting single.
Strongest Point(s): The dreamy melodic synth and drum beat really drive this song, but it's the airy echo guitar and almost aloof brooding singing style that makes this song an authentic and perfect dream pop/shoegaze single. The melody is also nice, with a guitar refrain that stayed stuck in my head. I also loved the subtle but powerful drums!
Target Audience Appeal: This song is a love letter to Gen X and Millenials who grew up with indie guitar bands of the 90s and 00's, and for anyone who is a fan of Dream Pop, Shoegaze, Alt. Rock, Pop Rock, Synth-Pop, Electronic music, New Wave, Indie Rock and especially Brit Pop. It will appeal to people who love bands like Lush, Blonde Redhead, Cults, The Pixies, Depeche Mode or Cocteau Twins. It ties to goth culture, electronica music culture, synth, Burning Man culture, the alternative rock scene and the revival of the 90s wave that's currently happening. I suggest seeking out music streaming platforms and including "People Are The Same" in Dreampop, Shoegaze and Goth playlists, for starters. I think this song would do great in North America (especially the West Coast, where you'll find similar sounds), but I believe that a larger audience will probably be found in the UK and EU. When I heard this song, I immediately thought of director Gregg Araki - his movies and soundtracks are usually always homages to shoegaze and dream pop music and culture -- so I suggest looking into indie movies in production as well, and consider submitting this song for a soundtrack or maybe, again, playlists on platforms related to indie movies or directors. I can absolutely picture this song in a cool indie movie.
Artist target suggestions: I suggest seeking out audiences who love the following bands which are relevant and related to the sound of People Are The Same: Cocteau Twins, Depeche Mode, The Pixies, Asobi Seksu, The Depreciation Guild, Broadcast, Curve, Lush, Suede, Slowdive, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Verve, The Smiths, Altered Images, Siouxsie and the Banshees, My Bloody Valentine, Lush, Galaxie 500, Curve, Suede, Cut Copy, Sonic Youth, Blur, His Name Is Alive, Saint Etienne, Broadcast, Blonde Redhead, Melody's Echo Chamber, Air, Cults, Phantogram, Echo & The Bunnymen, Kate Bush, Mazzy Star.
