Rémy & Alberte - Growing
Alternative/Alt. Rock, Dreampop
Roskilde, Denmark
Overall Impression: "Growing" is the atmospheric new release from the Danish group, Rémy & Alberte. An hypnotic 12/8 space rock groove is bolstered by ethereal synthesizers and expertly played tremolo guitar on this track, that features ominous layered vocals awash in reverb, creating a wide, dreamlike wall of sound that's aptly complimented by pulsating bass guitar and solid drumming. "Everything needs to end", begins the chorus to this dark, psychedelic lullaby that should find an audience among fans of artistic rock music that leans a bit more towards the melancholic side. Genre fans definitely need to check out Rémy & Alberte's "Growing", they will not be disappointed.
Strongest Point(s): Outstanding production, excellent mix. Good use of stereo space, impressive width. Great atmosphere, achieved through the use of layers of vocal reverb and synths. The trem guitar sounds great, adds an interesting color. Bass and drums/percussion sound fantastic. Great low end. Nice harmonic contrast between the verse and chorus, I liked the shift to the relative major that marks the chorus sections, solid arrangement overall. Lyrically appropriate, contextually. There's a subtle joy hidden away in the sadness here, and that's a difficult feat to achieve. Very nice work. Great bit of songwriting, musicianship, and production on this track.
