Presley Duyck - Happy 22!
Pop, Singer/Songwriter
Texas, United States
Overall Impression: A fusion of punk and glam rock, “Happy 22!”, is a fresh take in the genre of punk rock. Presley Duyck, is the Avril Lavigne of her generation. She has brought back that in-your-face, strong female voice, from her tone and independent attitude, and powerful air of confidence. The song is one filled with irony, as it’s more about a break-up and the toxicity around it, and what you didn’t get to say but really wanted to. It is not necessarily a song about regret but reflection, her mindset looking back in hindsight on the situation. A must for teens and young adults who could identify and relate to Duyck and her experiences.
Strongest Point(s): Duyck's strengths like her skills as a lyricist and vocalist. For Duyck, her music is lyrically driven and rhythmically compelling. Her lyrics are what fuel and inspire her songwriting. Her process begins by hearing the lyric in her head first, followed by the chords, and then writing down what she sees, and crafting it into song. With lyrics like " It’s your birthday, how the hell am I supposed to cope with that? If I wrote you a heartfelt letter, what would you think of that? Is it naive to tell you all I want to If you close your eyes I’ll spill my guts til it haunts you " Every lyric is peppered with visuals, wordplay, and intention, making it witty and speckled with sarcasm.
