Miro Abbaticchio - Waterfalls
Classical, Soundtrack, New Age
Bari, Italy
Overall Impression: Wonderfully arranged and replete with an astounding abundance of breathtaking flowing melodic lines and beautiful lush textures, "Waterfalls" is an incredibly strong offering by composer Miro Abbaticchio, who masterfully intertwines his many diverse ideas with an acute attention to detail and soft delicate touch. This was a marvelous listening experience and I will honestly say that I was easily swept up by it, brilliant work!
Strongest Point(s): One of this pieces biggest strengths is definitely it's melody writing, and more importantly, the way in which these melodic ideas are developed throughout the composition, thematic development plays a key role in any soundtrack, and it's great to see that this was obviously a focal point when this piece was devised. The main theme, first hinted at in the opening harp part, serves as the heart and soul of the track and acts as the main melodic backbone in which all subsequent ideas are derived from, and what a theme it is, when it fully enters in the woodwind section at 0:21, it sets the tone of the whole piece wonderfully and is both highly nuanced and strikingly poignant. The way Miro Abbaticchio then goes on to handle this theme is brilliant, it's rearranged, transposed to new instruments, fragmented, rhythmically altered, in other words, it's attentively developed, ensuring there is always a great amount of variation whilst still retaining a great level of musical cohesiveness. As you would expect from a film music piece such as this, there's a great amount of tonal and textural diversity, courtesy of the well chosen instrumentation, the graceful nature of the harp, the lush flowing strings, the warm sultry sound of the brass, and highly expressive woodwind section all combine to make a vivid soundscape that's full of both character and color./span>
Target Audience Appeal: Fans of soundtracks will certainly connect with this excellent composition, it has that certain quality to it which makes it perfect for the moving image.
