Rick Taylor - Everything is Everywhere
Alternative/Alt. Rock, Rock, Folk Rock
Florida, United States
Overall Impression: “Floating” is the latest single, from the band Copper Gypsy, and it’s fitting because as a song with so many layers and textures it feels at times like you are floating. A song that evokes contemplation and reflection, the tune’s impassioned lyrics have a more serious and somewhat dark tone, that explains the journey of someone feeling lost and confused and their journey to fight and resolve their inner demons. It is a relatable song and feeling, anyone can relate to a time or two in their lives.
Strongest Point(s): The song's vocals and instrumental performance make it a full-bodied, textured, and cohesive piece, that combines various genres for a great original tune. The song begins with a great hook, utilizing the guitar as notes are strummed and finger-picked on the guitar. A musical surprise the bass flute enters in giving the song a deep, rich, haunting, dream-like sound. The melody varies throughout the song, at first listen, it has a western, cowboy vibe with elements of tribal or native American music, as the song progresses, however, into a modern rock song with jazz elements and influences. This is done by using the sax, for a jazz element that is unique and played but seems somehow out of place in relation to the rest of the song. There is a great section, however, once it morphs into its rock element that includes a combo of guitar, drums, and sax that has great energy that enables them to feed off one another. The instrumentation and stellar performance continue throughout the song with a sexy and intricate guitar and drum solo that begins at 220 and ends at 315 with lots of great chords, licks, and arpeggios. There is a lot of style and variation and sophistication within the song and its composition. Another compliment to the song and one of its strengths are the vocals, lead singer Robby Benjamin’s vocals have a smoky, deep, raspy feel that really matches the song’s dark undertones and somber lyrics.
Target Audience Appeal: For fans of alternative, alt-rock, rock, indie, and folk. In addition, if you're a fan of Creed, Live, or Soundgarden, you should definitely check them out, they have similar vocal styles and tone.
Artist target suggestions: Velvet Revolver, A Perfect Circle, Buffalo Tom, Buckcherry, Puddle of Mudd, July For Kings, Bo Bice, Lifehouse, 3 Doors Down, David Cook, Snow Patrol, Soul Asylum, Hootie and the Blowfish, Semisonic, Lynyrd Skynyrd
