Beth Duncan - Serves Me Right
Jazz, Bossa, Vocal
California, United States

Overall Impression: What a truly marvelous composition, filled with delicacy and feeling, "Serves Me Right" is a wonderfully intimate arrangement that is expressed via superb performances and a truly captivating sense of melody. This is a song to get lost in, and I couldn't help but feel immersed from start to finish.

Strongest Point(s): We'll begin with the exquisite performances, the lead vocal performance is subtly nuanced and captures the tone and feel of the track impeccably, the control over dynamics and pitch is superb and truly inspiring. The guitar provides excellent rhythmic backing, elegantly outlining the harmony with great refinement and flair whilst the trumpet intersperses with virtuosic precision and gusto. I really like the stripped-back feel to this song, the simple yet highly effective instrumentation works well in focusing the spotlight on the melodic content, which boasts both tremendous complexity and maturity in its writing. The arrangement and overall flow are great, ideas and musical concepts are seamlessly interwoven with one another, and because the musical content is so rich and varied, you can't help as a listener but feel as if your getting gently carried throughout the piece, I couldn't help but feel continually invested from start to finish.

Target Audience Appeal: This perfectly fits within the Jazz genre and will certainly appeal to fans of the style, targeting this area is definitely the way to go.

Artist target suggestions: Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, LaVern Baker, Dinah Washington, Etta James, Sarah Vaughn, Blossom Dearie, Nancy Wilson, Peggy Lee, Steve Tyrrell, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Harry Conick Jr, Anita O'Day
