Overall Impression: With its poignant lyrics, strong performances across the board, and undeniable sense of melody, "Melancholy State of Mind" is an excellently crafted piece of songwriting. One More River Music has created an incredibly engaging song that is filled with both soul and delicate sentiment, I thoroughly enjoyed this track and it was a pleasure to listen to, great work!
Strongest Point(s): We'll begin with the outstanding vocal performance, beautifully expressing the lyrics with conviction and heart, they showcase excellent tonal and dynamic control and encapsulate the general feel of the song wonderfully. The lyrics themselves are inspired and contain both great depth and meaning, and again, are greatly strengthened by the strong vocals. The instrumentation is well chosen and perfectly fits the style of the song, there is a great amount of diversity in tone and timbre that allows for a broad range of interesting sounds, the delicate acoustic guitars arpeggios, the smooth and sultry strings, soft synth and gritty overdriven guitars all combine to create a varied tonal palette that makes for a very interesting musical backdrop for the vocal lines to flow over, and let's not forget how all these elements elegantly outline the harmony. You can really tell that all parts are performed by seasoned musicians with many combined years of experience, ideas are executed impeccably and with great confidence, and what a guitar solo! Melodically there is a lot to take away here, ideas are expertly handled and intertwined making for a thoroughly engaging piece of music that keeps the listener continually invested from start to finish. Lastly, the production and overall mix are superb, boasting a great amount of polish without losing the intricacies of the performances, and allowing for all individual instruments plenty of space to breathe, this is an extremely well put together song and you can really feel the love and attention that has gone into its making, brilliant!
Target Audience Appeal: This has a very classic feel to it, and has a definite classic pop/rock ballad vibe to it, targeting similar artists would definitely be the way to go with this particular track.
