Mia Vassilev - Toccata
Dance/Electronica, Instrumental
Florida, United States
Overall Impression: Tocatta is a new EDM release by Mia Vassilev. Pulling direct inspiration from the master himself, Vassilev uses the Tocatta in E Minor, BWV 914 by J.S. Bach as the primary source material. Originally composed for the clavier, the Bach Toccatas have been endlessly reimagined on various instruments, most notably the piano, since the 1700s. Vassilev has continued this tradition by placing it in a truly unexpected medium - Electronic Dance Music, and does so quite effectively. As an EDM piece, Tocatta is full of energy, hard hitting beats, and awe-inspiring waves of sound. The intensity ebbs and flows as the piano part takes center stage and culminates in a graceful splash. With Tocatta, Mia Vassilev has combined two unexpected styles and created a truly unique piece that serves as a stellar EDM track, and a cool reinterpretation of Bach.
Strongest Point(s): The piece itself is very cool, and well done, but the high production value should be noted here. The mix is spot on, and the stereophonic distribution of sounds is subtle and effective. It would be very cool to hear this in a club.
Target Audience Appeal: Fans of EDM music will surely love this Tocatta. Classical musicians can also find an appreciation for this version, as it is well done and doesn't patronize the original work.
Artist target suggestions: Afrojack, Alan Walker, Calvin Harris, Diplo, Skrillex, Marshmello, Hardwell, Swedish House Mafia
