Mellowe - The Dawn Will Break (No Words)
R&B, Pop, Jazz
Hamburg, Germany
Overall Impression: Mellowe serves up a helping of soulful good times with his latest release, "The Dawn Will Break (No Words)." This optimistic track features an infectious, rolling bass line and a jazz pop influenced vocal arrangement that's driven along by a spritely house rhythm. Sagacious spoken worn sections punctuate the musical landscape, encouraging peace and compassion, and adding ample substance to the abundant style that's inherent in this song. Mellowe's "The Dawn Will Break (No Words)" is a ray of sunshine, and should have little trouble finding an audience among fans of both RnB and House music.
Strongest Point(s): Yes, there is most certainly a sub genre of house music called soulful house, and you sir, have nailed it. It mostly boils down to the "four on the floor" kick, and the *tiss* of the hi-hat on the upbeats. Another key element that's usually featured in the genre, are the spoken word sections, which I felt really helped define this track. There's so much to like about this song, from top to bottom. Love the intro, it has a gravity to it that gives way to a more joyous feel when the beat comes in, for a nice contrast from the start. The vocal arrangement is outstanding, as well as the vocal production. Instrumental arrangement, also. Especially that bass line, so groovy. Really liked the vibraphone, too. Great choice. The sections where you used that reverse cymbal and halftime feel gave it a nice rhythmic variation. Lyrically, it's very woke. Really positive message of optimism, that comes across in every line. Overall, you've created an amazing track that's both listenable and danceable. Really nice work on this one!
