Overall Impression: Terry Pidsadny has created a unique and somewhat unconventional alternative rock tune that isn't afraid to take risks and push the boundaries that you would normally associate with the genre. Into The Woodwork is an interesting piece that isn't afraid to meld genres together in a particularly elegant manner, fusing a vocal style that has a subtle country/bluesy vibe with a harmonically quirky backing, this is a fresh sounding tune trying to do something a little different, and that is always commendable.
Strongest Point(s): There is a definite deepness to the lyrics that require attentive ears, both reflective and foreboding, there is a somewhat dark rawness embedded here that makes for a fascinating listen. There is great depth here accompanied by a very personal feel that will no doubt engage the listener. Particular merit must go to the slightly off-kilter melody writing, it fits perfectly with the tone of the lyrics, and the subtle chromatic movement and almost "out of tune" feeling of the instruments creates a slight sense of unease by feeling as if the melodies are weaving in and out of the expected harmony, this all helps add to the effectiveness of the lyrical themes that are fortified by this inspired musical choice. I like the subtle nods to different genres, the opening chromatic melody played on the keys has a very Lousiana Blues sound, whilst the transition heard at 1:25 is reminiscent of a typical melodic movement found in prog, this all makes for an even more fascinating listen.
Target Audience Appeal: This sits very well in the Alternative Rock genre, its interestingly unconventional approach to melody is a staple of the genre and also borrows from similar experimental genres, an area definitely worth targeting.
