Overall Impression: Rock The Clock is the newest release from the Alternative Rock band Sixteen Bullets. Opening with an ominous tick-tock tick-tock sung by front man Mic Marvel, Rock The Clock immediately hits listeners with a wall of heavy guitars before plunging into a metal version of the famous snake charmer melody. Also known as the "Streets of Cairo" melody, the band uses the snake charmer as an ostinato pattern throughout the entirety of Rock The Clock. With its hypnotic structure, the melody immediately pulls listeners in and refuses to let go. The lyrics are sung in short three syllable bursts, giving a sense of immediacy and reinforcing the ticking clock theme that defines the track. The punchy lyrics describe the evolution of a day for Marvel, culminating with the repeated phrase "I be rockin'." Overall, Rock the Clock features a heavy metal sound, with quick-witted vocals similar to the Beastie Boys. With their rap-rock release of Rock The Clock, Sixteen Bullets establishes themselves as a killer new face in alternative rock.
Strongest Point(s): The heaviness of the guitars is balanced out by the brightness of the vocals and the party vibe they give off. It makes for a very cool balance. The guitar tone is killer, too.
