Raynald Grenier - Adagio in G minor
Classical, Easy Listening, Dream Mood
Quebec City, Canada

Overall Impression: Adagio in G minor is a new release from the album Dolci Momenti by Raynald Grenier. With the Adagio in G minor, Grenier reveals his compositional mastery of gorgeous melody. The opening line, played by the flute and oboe, draws the curtain and sets the stage for what is a truly beautiful work. Played first by the bassoon, the central melody of the piece ascends and cascades with a melancholic grace before being passed through the orchestra. The piece reaches an emotional climax when the melody returns in the strings supported by the full force of the orchestra. In this moment, one cannot help but feel every bit of pent up anguish, despair, and dread buried down deep. A compassionate composer, Grenier does not long allow these feelings to linger before adding moments of respite and relief. In true romantic fashion, the piece returns to woodwind and string soloists before carrying listeners to the final bow. Raynald Grenier has many compositional talents at his disposal. With the Adagio in G minor, his melodic, emotional, and orchestrative talents are on full display.

Strongest Point(s): Clearly, this reviewer is a fan of the melody in this piece. It should be noted, that the G minor tonality is the foundation of this truly beautiful work.

Target Audience Appeal: Fans of classical music and orchestral film soundtracks will love the music of Raynald Grenier.

Artist target suggestions: Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky, Joaquin Rodrigo, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, John Williams. Johannes Brahms, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Camille Saint-Saens, Gustav Mahler, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Richard Wagner
