Aldo - Rat Race
Rock, New Age, Jazz
United States
Overall Impression: Rat Race is a new instrumental release by American composer Aldo. Featuring piano, percussion, and bass, Rat Race proves that less is more. The piano provides the bulk of the melodic and harmonic material, but is given an irreplaceable foundation and drive by the bass and drums. A descending chromatic line in the left hand of the piano makes a continual appearance. Spiraling downward, this little motive adds so much color and intrigue that it sparks joy on every recurrence. The rhythmic drive and articulation in the piano performance is nothing short of brilliant. Overall, the quick paced tune has a wild flair deserving of the name Rat Race. With the release of Rat Race, Aldo adds a fantastic new work to his already prolific output.
Strongest Point(s): Truly, it's difficult to narrow down which points are the strongest. The compositional brilliance is matched by the instrumental performance, and the simplicity of the instrumentation highlights both of these qualities. This trio would surely be a joy to see live.
Target Audience Appeal: Fans of instrumental jazz, rock, and movie/tv sound tracks will love Rat Race by Aldo.
Artist target suggestions: Andreas Vollenweider, Mannheim Steamroller, Bill Evans, Russell Malone, Trans-Siberian orchestra, Dave Brubeck, Yanni, David Arkenstone, William Ackerman
