Ms. Marguerite - Loving You Like a Love Song (Reissue)
R&B, Soul
Maryland, United States
Overall Impression: Maryland based soul singer Ms. Marguerite presents a very clever take on the classic R&B love song, with her new single "Loving You Like A Love Song". Combining original lyrics with homages to classic cuts by the likes of En Vogue, Otis Redding, Heatwave and many others. With a catchy main chorus (based on The Delfonics, "La La La Means I Love You" & "Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time?") and a gentle acoustic guitar and piano, Ms Marguerite perfectly captures a classic late-90's / early-2000's vibe throughout. Gorgeous vocals, lush keyboards, a sultry bass and rhythm section, all coalesce to create a chill and inviting atmosphere.
Strongest Point(s): Ms Marguerite is an excellent vocalist, with some very powerful pipes. She puts these to good use constantly throughout Loving You Like A Love Song. The music production is also top quality. Nothing is mixed incorrectly. Everything sits great in the mix, with equal attention payed to every instrument, all wrapped up in some solid mastering. Really love the clever lyrical play in the song as well. Quoting some of my personal favorite R&B tracks makes this song a lot of fun to listen to.
Target Audience Appeal: For fans of everything from classic 70's Philly Soul, to 90's R&B. Loving You Like A Love Song has a wide appeal and a lot of nostalgic value for older listeners. Definitely recommend contacting sync agencies for possible placement in film, tv, commercials, etc.
Artist target suggestions: Macy Gray, Lauryn Hill, The Delfonics, The Stylistics, Angie Stone, Jill Scott, Lady Wray, En Vogue, Corrine Bailey Rae, Rebecca Ferguson, Raphael Sadiq, Amel Larrieux, Otis Redding, Leela James, Syleen Johnson, Heatwave, etc.
