Center Stage Artist - Perico Hernandez

Image
Jose Caridad Hernandez , better known as “Perico”, is a sonero/percussionist/composer/songwriter who creates “organic  cuban music.” Born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, Perico is the second to the youngest of twelve siblings and the only one who became a musician. Perico began his musical training as a young boy in Havana.  He watched the street rumberos creating amazing rhythms on the “tumbadoras” (congas), and after watching Patato Valdez play congas on a TV show, Perico decided that’s what he wanted to do. Perico gradually learned from the “rumberos” and at age 14 became the conguero for a neighborhood group, Conjunto Monte Carlo. He was eventually recruited to play with the popular Conjunto Casino. Regarding his nickname Perico, he tells the story that as a kid he walked around the neighborhood with an elderly man called “Perico.” Pretty soon the neighbors started saying “Here come Perico y Periquito.” Perico has said “Maybe the name was meant to be because I’m now a sonero and...

More On PopScore - How It Works

Image
After two weeks of PopScore we're thrilled with how much interest it has generated. We have awarded hundreds of thousand of Play Credits and have received a tremendous amount of positive feedback. There have also been a fair number of questions. Three recurring questions that we will try and answer below are: - How is the PopScore calculated? - What’s a good PopScore? - How can I improve my PopScore? So here's the lowdown: How is the PopSc ore calculated? As some of you probably know, each time we play your song to one of Jango's 7 Million listeners we ask them to rate your song. We enter all these listener reactions into a formula to determine which songs, and therefore which bands, are most popular with our listeners. In simple terms the PopScore is a ratio computed by total ...

SONG REVIEW 🎵📝 Johnny Void and The Others - What I Say Is Cool

Image
Johnny Void and The Others - What I Say Is Cool Metal, Punk, Hardcore Florida, United States Overall Impression: "What I Say is Cool" is an exciting release from the vault of Florida based punk rockers, Johnny Void and The Others. With the lineup of Johnny Void (guitar/vox), Michael Blackford (bass), and Jason Burrows (drums), the band recorded this track in January 1996 at L N G Studios in Merrit Island, FL. This track wastes no time in getting down to business, immediately hitting the listener with the full force of distorted guitar, frenetic drumming and a screaming, guttural vocal delivery through the verse, before landing on the more melodic titular hook of "What I say is cool." A quick modulation serves as a bridge, before returning to the main riff and finishing out this brief but wild ride. Punk rock aficionados should be on the lookout for not one, but two musical anthologies from Johnny Void and The Others, released on Rakka Rakka R...
