Contact Your Fans via Email: Use Shared Emails in Mailchimp

You've probably noticed by now that when Jango listeners become fans, they also have the option of providing you with their email address. Every time a fan chooses to provide their email, the address is then added to a list that can be found in the LISTENERS > EMAIL ADDRESSES page on your Radio Airplay account.

What you may not have been aware of is that you can download the list in CSV format which can then be imported to various platforms to send emails or newsletters to all your fans at once. MailChimp is a favorite of ours. It's a great platform and email marketing service with many awesome tools to keep you connected to your fans. If you don't have an account, you can create one for free HERE.

After you create your MailChimp account, you'll need to download your CSV list
from the LISTENERS > EMAIL ADDRESSES on your Radio Airplay account page to your computer:

The CSV file with the email list will then be saved to the files in your computer, which you will need to locate later. Now that you've completed the above steps, you're ready to import the CSV file to your MailChimp list.

Log in to your MailChimp account and navigate to the LISTS page and click CREATE LIST. From here you can fill out the details for this particular list of emails as well as notifaction settings:

After you've completed this page, you will then be asked to Add contacts. From here, just click on the IMPORT CONTACTS option:

You will then see options asking where you want to import your contacts from. Choose "CSV or tab-delimited text file" then click NEXT.

Now just click BROWSE to locate and select that CSV file you saved earlier. Check the box next to "I understand that my billing plan may be automatically upgraded. Your account will only be upgraded if your list import causes your subscriber count to exceed your current billing plan." Click NEXT to go to the import subscribers step:

Click Save for the Email Address column. MailChimp automatically matches the column in your import file that contains email addresses to the required Email Address field in your list:

The editing pane for each column includes the current column name, field type, and example data from your list, for your reference. To exclude a column from the final import, click Skip.

You must match or skip all columns to complete your import. After you're finished matching, you'll see a success message:

Click Next to review your final import settings.

On the You're all set to import! screen, review the settings for your import. Be sure to keep the Subscribed option selected:

After you've reviewed your settings, click Import.

Once you've imported your contacts, you'll be ready send your first email or newsletter.
