Ditching the Record Label ....

It's 2013, and in many ways it's never been easier to make it as an artist or musician. New technologies and opportunities for artists are coming out every day, to a point where the traditional paths of waiting around for a record label to discover you are becoming less effective than DIY and self-promotion. Taking advantage of all the great new musical technologies and opportunities can do wonders for building your fan base, getting more exposure and making it in the music business!

Our friends over at Music Think Tank recently posted a great article about new ways of finding success with your music. They list some great ideas and examples on promoting yourself and finding success without going the traditional way of finding a record label. Click Here to read more..

Check back often for more industry news, tips & tricks on how to make the most out of your promotion on Radio Airplay!

Reverbnation stopped working for me..as top of chart...soundcloud stopped working for me..within weeks..facebook wont allow me to share music to my music...what is the difference with you guys that does not involve me in buying a new computer to keep up with your "ideas"?

It's all about CD sales. Unfortunately there are so many robots out there like Jango or Radio Airplay with the intention to rip off battling artists wishing to fulfil a dream. So who do you trust?. Ditching the record label for false hope fake promises is the same as replacing like with like, just a lot more frustrating. To write this comment I had to prove I'm not a Robot!. Ironic.

Some standard fare as far as advice. Honestly no revelations here. The only reason I am posting is to send out a flag about Taxi and Music Xray. Unlike Jango that provides an actual service. These are sights that both ask for money to send your songs for blind review. No matter how descriptive the requirements first timers need to think very hard before sending money anywhere without a legitimate relationship with the recipient.

music labels do in 5 minutes what a band would take them to do in 5 years.real radio does the same thing.other than having a "hit song" any unsigned band is just that "unsigned"these "music bloggers" talk a good game yet none of them have or had any success with any unsighed band.

As a brand new "do it yourselfer" with CDBaby, I find these comments very disheartening.

Stop whining people if you don't make tons of CD sales. Get your music out and play!! If you don't suck someone will listen and that is what counts ultimately.

What I hear in most of these comments is the same old talk I hear in many years in the music industry:
If people don't buy your music it's always somebody else's fault. It's record labels' fault or it's FB or youtube or CDBaby and the list goes on. And ultimately it's never the artist's fault.
Maybe, just maybe your music is not as great to the rest of the world as it is to your family friends.

I don't Know who's not gettin what out there , But all I know is , when I started on Jango almost 2 years ago ., I had no money coming in to my bank account .
Now I've Got a four digit figure in royalties going Direct Deposit into my bank account ,EVERY SINGLE MONTH !! my SECRET ?!?!
GOOD DAMN MUSIC ! WHEN I finished "Place Of My Dreams" I paid Tunecore to put it up as a single. In a relatively short time of pushing my Jango account , people were linked to my itunes and BUYING My Music. You can feel when you got something the world wants to hear. my other secret is I Play out LIVE IN The night Clubs and Restaurants. I also Give Shows and sell ticket. I went to Broad and Market street in Newar and stood on the corner and shouted and sold out my show Nov 17th in Bloomfield NJ. Plus Drop your song or share your songs to Facebook. Come on people Get the freak up and work it ., I'll help you if you want . here's my e-mail

Radioairplay.com is good. An affordable service that can really help you to define your target market. That being, the people who like your music. $30.00 per month will provide you with good feedback on the potential for your song.I doubt that radioairplay.com will make you a star, there's more work involved than that, but it will help you define your receptive audience. And for those who say it's all about CD sales, WRONG!! It's about streaming royalties. CD sales are good at the live venue. The world is switching to the "cloud". It's inevitable. My name is Drew, and I have lots of links to tunes at http://www.drewbarnes.com I'm having a lot of fun!
