Christmas Comes Early - Bonus Play Credits

Today, we awarded the first round of bonus Play Credits to bands based on their Jango PopScore. This week we've awarded 125,000 credits (a $5,000) value to airplay bands. Login to airplay.jango.com to see your PopScore for the week.

Every band or artist with a PopScore for the week over 80 received bonus Play Credits. Don't worry - we'll be doing this every week and as long as you have 50 paid plays for at least one song, you will be in the running.

The top five bands each week receive 5,000 bonus Play Credits to use as they wish... here are the five top scoring bands for this week:

Jocelyn Scofield

Young X

The Vandon Arms

Ryan Holley

Jill Andrews

OK, I had my concerns about this pop score, but it seems to be a good start. IMO, still has some bugs, but jango apears to be on the right track. I would still like to see an indie chart system in place. After all, this is a radio station and charts are very important as they are with all stations.
As for the pop score, good work jango.

This pop score thing really confuses me. I'm not sure exactly how the scores and tallied.

Hi Gang,

here's a brief for the blog on PopScore and how it works.

1. you only need 50 plays on a song to get a PopScore.

2. The PopScore is a detailed algorithm that is based on variables like 'Become a Fan' 'I Like' 'Skip Song' 'I Don't Like' 'Make Em' 'Break Em' etc.

3. It's based on your minimum of 50 'paid' plays so it can't be gamed. Bands can't just go to their page and click 'I Like' 1000 times and get a higher score.

We have tested out different variations of the algorithm over the last couple months to make sure that it is accurate...

What we want to do is find the best bands on Jango Airplay and reward them with free spins because our listeners like them.

More to come...Stay Tuned

One more question about the popscore metric -- does it reflect the total number of plays, or is it proportional? For example, if you had two songs that both got 20% 'become a fan', but one had many more plays, would that one have a much higher score?
Anyway, keep up the great work! Jango is awesome:)
