Band of The Month - Hugo Kant

This month's artist hails from Marseille, France and he's been a constant feature in our top 10 chart for weeks - at the moment he's #1 on the chart. The man behind the success goes by the alias Hugo Kant and here is his interview, enjoy!

Describe Hugo Kant's sound in one sentence?
A refreshing and soulful mix of nujazz/triphop and acoustic music.

When did you start doing music as Hugo Kant and where?
The project started in Marseille, France where last year on june 2010 i decided to begin to release my work as Hugo Kant, but the musical project itself started long before that. I've always been recording some tracks alongside the other projects i was working on, but never really took the time to take it further.

Name three people who have influenced your music, and tell us why? Living or dead.
I have listened a lot to the Beatles when i was young at first. I think they made a great impression on my overall musical taste, even today. More recently, Amon Tobin and Bonobo for example are artists i really like for their sound. But i could name many others as important as those ones !

How do you connect with fans and get them involved in your music?
Mainly through social/musical sites like soundcloud, facebook, last.fm, jango, mixcloud...
I like to check my fans profiles to see if i can know more of what they like and discover new artists.

What do you like the most about Jango Airplay?
Jango Airplay is one of my best way to get my music listened to and liked !
There's a lot of feedback from the users and most of them subscribe to the mailing list or like on Facebook. All the links to my other sites makes it easy for them to find out more if they want to.

Is there any recent project you'd like to share with us? Tell us about it.
My latest project is my debut album "I don't want to be an emperor" released on June 2011 by Bellring.

More recently i have been doing a few remixes and a featuring on track by the french trip-hop band Screenatorium. You should see coming all this in the next few months, stay tuned !

Are you playing live and do you have any shows coming up soon?
Yes we are currently working on the live set and the first show will be on october 28 in Paris.

October 28 : Paris, France / L'international - Festival Perstronica
November 19 : Venelles, France / Comparses et Sons
December 1 : Bratislava, Slovakia / Le Batelier
December 2 : Topolcany, Slovakia /  Nástupište 1-12

More shows to come soon and a tour for spring 2012 is being planned. Stay tuned here : http://hugokant.com/events

There you have it! Many thanks to Hugo Kant for letting us interview him and for being part of Jango Airplay. And thanks to all of you for tuning into the blog and being Airplayers. Next month we'll have another band lined up for you.
