Jango Emails - What Works

Over the past few years here at Jango HQ we've had the privilege to become fans of hundreds, if not thousands, of Airplay artists as we listen to our own stations throughout the day. This also means that we are regularly on the receiving end of fan emails sent out by our artists. We thought we'd take this as an opportunity to discuss what works.

Outside of 'bulletins' there are now three ways to email your fans on Jango. You can email all of your fans at once in a mass email, go down your fan list emailing them individually or email them right from your realtime listener feed as they become your fan. This leads us to the first route to success.

- Keep it personal - This is where the realtime listener feed email option comes in real handy. You know the listener is online and you know what else they are listening to. Address them by name, tell them how much you like the other bands they are listening to and give them a reason to engage with you.

- Be short, sweet and action oriented - Always make sure you get to the point within the first couple lines and let the listener know why you are contacting them and what you want them to do whether it's going to download an mp3 or to check you out on Facebook.

- Stay organized - It's always best to keep everything really clear. Make it a couple short paragraphs and make sure any links always stand alone with some kind of 'call to action' included. Proper grammar and spelling never hurt either and lay off the caps lock, you don't want to be 'yelling' at your new fans.

- Maintain Regularity - Communicate often, but not too much and make sure you have something new to say each time. Maybe even create a certain format to your emails which is easily recognizable and easy to navigate.

- Keep your expectations realistic - At the end of the day these are marketing emails so you can't always expect an answer. You just want to make sure your information is clear, available and easy to act upon; let that action be the response you're looking for.

This is just a quick list of the things that I've seen in emails that have made me read the whole thing and of course check out some more great music, artists and fresh faces.

There's a good example below for you to check out as well...looking forward to hearing from you
