Feature Update: The Realtime Listener Feed

As 2011 kicked off we started burning the midnight oil here at Jango to bring you what we think is the most exciting feature yet on Jango Airplay: the Realtime Listener Feed, a dynamic feature bringing to life the interaction of artists, songs, listeners and fans as it happens.

When you log in to your Airplay account you will see a feed on the right hand side of your dashboard that displays who is listening to your music right now, which song they are hearing, why we matched your song to the listener's station, as well as where they are located.

From the feed you can click on the listener’s name to view their profile, see what other music they have been listening to and generally get a sense of their interests. Remember that all of the listeners in your feed with have one thing in common - they have all indicated a preference for the artists that you are targeting. Look for differences between listeners who become fans and listeners that do not, or try to identify aspects about your fans that make them similar beside the artists you have targeted!

Also, when a listener ‘becomes a fan’ they are tagged in the feed with a big ‘thumbs up’ which enables you to email them right from the feed in realtime. This also shows you what songs you have in rotation that are generating the most fan activity.

Expect more big things in 2011 from Jango Airplay

I'm digging the new feature. I think it will really help with fan targeting. Now I know why the Beatles appear in most of my fan overlap reports: 20% of my plays were to Beatles' fans yesterday!

What would be really cool is to make this into a widget that could be embedded. if you contact me I can help write a mobile app version of this for Android.

Ummm, what happens if someone is listening but not watching their monitor (as I often do). They won't have any reaction at all, they'll just hear you in the background. Maybe you can find a way to see who is actually seeing your info when your song plays. Just a thought. Very cool ideas presented in the survey. thanks for the efforts.

This is an excellent because it brings people closer to the artist.

Nice feature! While I'm not interested in chatting with listeners or getting their specific feedback on songs, I like seeing which songs made them become a fan. It'll definitely help with targeting!

Sorry, but I don't see how this really benefits the artist, can we respond to them as well in real time? THAT's a good feature, like realtime chat. Otherwise, I honestly don't see the point, Jango already has a place for fans to post comments, and that's great because those comments stay up for all to see, and we can control spam/negative comments, etc. We can already go to the listener's pages and see their playlists. This sounds like its going to take up space on my Jango page that I would rather use to sell merch or something.

What concerns me is that I can also see this feature becoming a spam magnet, other artists "shouting" for you to check out their badass new trax, etc. etc. What stops people from posting ads for viagra? Can we delete posts or block users who are misusing the feed? Please Jango, don't become all spammed out like MySpace. Personally, I'd rather have improved ways for US to contact listeners/fans. If this was a TWO-WAY feed, now that would be rockin'!

Thanks for trying, there are lots of good ideas that we artists can give you to make Jango the answer we've all been looking for, I do hope you'll continue to listen

PLEASE HELP I CAN'T UPLOAD MY TRACKS I HAVE BEEN TRYING FOR MONTHS, I AM FRUSTRATED

Sorry, I had to amend my post, I guess I didn't understand the concept! So its just like a notification when someone listens? I was thinking it was like a Twitter feed where people can write anything. And we CAN contact the listeners, got it.

Gosh, sorry I'm dumb, der..

I think that's good then, NEVERMIND..

But... it wouldn't be me if I didn't have another comment, so let me just say I hope that "emailing" the listener is actual email? Or does it just go in their Jango inbox? I have over 1300 fans and I've only gotten maybe 150 actual email addresses. Maybe they need better notification or something.

OK, I'm going to sleep now, g'night all!

Big Thumbs Up Jango for this new feature! I find it very helpful to able to see a specific song tagged to a listener and the radio station they were listening to. Even if that listener didn't become a fan, this feature leaves an nice audio audit trail of where our hard earned spins are being heard. I can see how this would help with optimizing our song targeting.

This consolidation of fans and listeners on one streaming page gives easy access to their profiles and history rather than having to get to it through the back door. This saves me several steps and I'm grateful for your efforts.

Looking forward to all your new tweaks and tweets.

I discovered this new feature (listener feeder) yesterday. Awesome! At the rate Jango is going right now, I think we artists are headed for a very BRIGHT future.

Well done, Jango - we give this two thumbs up!

It would be nice to see what my listeners' targets were in aggregate on the reports page. Scrolling through the listener feed is fun for a few pages, but I don't see myself making a habit of it.

It is really helpful, even from fan reports, you can see potential fans, geographic data, other stations they listen. Thumbs up!

you were played.

The image accompanying the initial blog entry is a little misleading, because half of the listener results have thumbs-up. For me, ALL of the listener results have thumbs-up. Ha!

So, anyone who shows up in real time with thumbs up means they clicked on "make 'em" and anyone who doesn't show up with the thumbs up clicked on "break 'em"?

I'm a little confused about what I'm seeing. Can someone help clarify?

Sam Page said...

Anonymous: Someone who shows up in the listener feed without thumbs up could also have (1) skipped to the next song without clicking "make" or "break", or (2) let the song play all the way through without clicking anything.

Still got a long way to go. I liked this a lot more till I realized it wasn't just showing me who I was winning over. Those thumbs up could have become fans months ago. If I actually followed this articles advice, I could have welcomed the same person to my fan club ten times by now.
Here's "my why can't I" list
-see the people that are thumbs downing me
-see which thumbs ups are new fans
-get my batting average for a given artist (the green bar is pretty piss poor in fan overlap, and I say that as a web developer) I want to know how often I win over a fan who hears me because they like Clapton, for example
