This Week's Top Scoring Bands

This week another great bunch of artists coming in for the PopScore final for last week. Check them out right here. It's nice to see a small international contingent represented as well.

Artist: Sarah Darling
Ambitious, young country artist Sarah Darling hails from Des Moines, but she was not long for the Midwest. Just one year out of highschool she saved up, moved to Nashville, and has been going strong ever since.

Jack Of Hearts
Artist: A Secret Sense
A Secret Sense is a delicate pop project, influenced by romance and the singer-songwriter tradition. The group recently released their album Melancholique to enthusiastic fan and critical response.

Solace
Artist: Josh Damigo
Josh Damigo is a much-lauded pop/rock artist hailing from San Diego. Weened on older styles of lyrically-driven pop, his faith and desire have landed him on stage with everyone from Ari Hest to Joss Stone.

Shooting For The Sun
Artist: Half Mile Radius
Taiwan-based rock band Half Mile Radius formed just last year, but they're already making waves with an exciting mix of simultaneously danceable and grungy rock.

Ashes To Onions
Artist: Alexandra Kui
Alexandra Kui is a German language singer-songwriter. Not only is her music a tasteful acoustic melange, but it makes German sound almost romantic. Klingt gut!

I THINK THE ARTISTS SHOULD GET A PERCENTAGE OF EACH PLAY THAT WOULD ADD UP TO A CERTAIN NUMBER OF FREE PLAYS PER MONTH, INSTEAD OF THE CURRENT POPSCORE INACCURACY. THAT WAY IT MIGHT MIGHT MAKE SENSE TO KEEP PAYING JANGO EVERY MONTH (OR MORE) TO PLAY YOUR TUNES.

Give it up. They are not going to change a thing!!

We payed for about 4 months and now without paying we are still getting 30 to 50 plays per day. We appreciate what we got for our money with Jango. We will definitely use Jango again.

Thanks Jango for the exposure, fans, and e-mails.

They say "band participation" increases a popscore... a few weeks ago I paid for over 1000 plays and interacted with fans for a score of 65, last week I did nothing at all... for a score of 85. What gives? I like Jango, but this makes me want to not spend my money!

THE KEY GUYS IS TO INTERACT WITH THESE GUYS AND THANK THEM AND ASK THEM TO ADD YOU TO THEIR STATIONS.
THAT IS WHAT WILL BUILD YOUR POPULARITY IN THIS.
THE LAST POST JUST PROVED WHAT I SAID SOMETIME AGO. ITS HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE
GOOD LUCK TO ALL

We're absolutely stoked to be featured on Jango! Thanks! Loving this f*****ng service. Thanks for giving emerging bands like us such a great outlet! It's wonderful to not have to rely solely on the few companies who own the airwaves and distribution channels to get our music out there. Cheers!

its not worth my money anymore, but thanks jango. this service is not for every artist i guess because most of my so called "fans" forgot about me in a week, i guess its because i have two songs because i always had a pop score of 96 and higher and over 500 some "fans." it seems like people only care about real radio air time and that is my next goal...but thanks a lot anyway

oh no , not another one of those! Seriously though, if you click the "make em" insted of the "break em" selection when the new artist pop up you may find that artist added to your current station.
I have an oldie station an all girl station and new wave station. If I click the "make em" on a hip hop artist that pops up on my oldie station I find I now have a hip hop station that plays oldies and the only way to fix it is to delete the entire station and start again.
I now click "break em" on everyone and if I really like them search the artist on Jango and add them to my station.
I get about one spam song for every 10 plays as I look through my song history. If I click yes on all of them the 1/2 of my station is now new artist I never added any of them to my station. Is there some way to opt out of the new artist or at least opt out of styles we don't want to hear even if the artist are paying you to play them?

That is the most confusing comment I have ever read!!

Anonymous said...

Just wait...that was fairly clear in a confused sort of way

Anonymous said...

i know it is confusing. why does it matter?
think if everyone did your music like that. wouldnt help you much either

Since there's nowhere else to go, Jango listeners are now seeking out the unofficial "forum" for Airplay artists (blog comments) to point out more ass-backward Jango practices.

If I read the above correctly, listeners are hearing Airplay songs they shouldn't really be hearing (hip-hop on an oldies station -- c'mon Jango!). Even if you love the song, clicking "make 'em" comes at the cost of f*cking up your whole station. So Jango is making the Airplay rating aspect of listening to Jango a major pain in the ass, with the result that listeners are within their rights to simply hit "break 'em" for everything. They might then search out bands they REALLY loved, but this is a practice that Jango claims is not factored into PopScore (only make 'em/break 'em paid plays are).

I hope more user experiences are posted here (and LESS ALL CAPS, BROKEN RECORD GIBBERISH FROM CHRIS W).

"Band participation" is a term coined accidentally by Jango in an attempt to make the PopScore better understood. They meant "number of bands participating," and it caused a lot of confusion (still does), but still, you have to agree it's pretty close for a chimp.

Interaction with fans does not affect PopScore. Just play as few spins as possible at your peak time (<100 for the week) and you'll crest 90. Goes for almost anyone,

hip hop showing up in an oldie station probably means that some hip hop artist targeted some oldie artist, not the smartest move but whatever...

Anonymous said...

What's the best time to have your songs played?
Advice anyone ?

Anonymous said...

Saturday. Although it isn't really fair if you only play on the best days, while others play much more and take the ups and downs of the whole week, POPSCORE-wise. It's supposed to factor weekly performance, but the truth is the advantage goes to those who pick and choose how many spins their POPSCORE is based on, and when they get played. Bad business for Jango.

If you are an artist paying for this service then you should sign up as a listener also and see how it works. You may get pissed of too! This is also a social networking site and a lot of "listeners" don't play any songs at all. (~_~)

Who's moaning, Chris? I commented on a user complaint that is of genuine concern to Airplay artists and Jango listeners. The poster was using these comments as a forum to share his experience. I used these comments to respond to -- and hopefully learn from -- the original poster's remarks. The more people using this forum to share info and experience, the better.

Your posts (all caps, no punctuation, spelling and grammar errors galore) are far from helpful: they often don't make sense, are bullying, and present your own crack-brained theories as fact.

Recently, you have begun pasting exact copies of these rants all over the place. I'm sick of your broken-record and factually WRONG posts crowding out and shouting down the comments of others. You've been repeating the same thing for months. Now you're calling people names and acting like the king of the comments section.... Maybe you should consider the possibility that your off-topic, unstructured, poorly-written posts might not be everyone's cup of tea. You might even consider that you could be wrong (counterproductive, annoying).

I think a lot of this goes away if you STOP looking at the competitive aspects of it. Forget the 'pop-score' - what's that got to do with your music anyway? Or who likes it for that matter given the known 'flaws' in any kind of classification of this manner? We're just thankful for the opportunity to get our stuff out on the coat-tails of well known artists, and have some folks listen and chime in. And we get to do it at a cost effective rate - one of our choosing. Way too much whining on this site. Your 'music career' - such as it exists - will not be made nor broken HERE. It will be made or broken - OUT THERE. So go play a show. Learn your craft. Enjoy yourself. sheesh....

Js,
Get over yourself my friend.
I don,t need an english teacher and calling people names?
I just told you to take your b.s elsewhere. I never talk down to anyone on here but merely forward sucess I am having to others.
Itls obvious that you still don't get it because you are the only one on here week after week bitching and moaning. So, who gave you the right to be self rightous and almighty to come at me when you have been the one taking shots at me. At least I have the balls to show my identity. You have not. As for my english, well, I got your attention with the caps and yes, it's a habit but I more of an education than you know. So, take your english class somewhere my friend.

Like I said some time ago, maybe you need to spend time making you better than sitting on here taking shots on me and bitching about jango. Yes, the system isn't perfect but it works if you worry about what matters and the popscore my friend, does not.

I'm sorry you have such a problem with me but you my friend aren't the no it either. I have sold cds and have gotten more airplay from jango by interacting with these people and sending a simple thank you and asking them to add me to their stations. Guess what, it works. Maybe you should try it.
I don't think that is talking down to people or putting people down.

Get over it man
