You might make the top 5 by being "that good" when the PopScore is fixed and becomes an accurate index of QUALITY. What it is now is so fundamentally flawed that it doesn't accurately measure anything. Mathematically, the PopScore favors artists with the least QUANTITY (of spins), so keep it to 50 and you just might make it.

heh yeah over 1900 plays over 200 likes, 90 fans in a week and i get a popscore of 85. i'm not saying this is top n, but yeah i've noticed the more plays i get, the more likes and more fans, the lower my popscore. so far this week (and it's tuesday) i have over 800 plays, and 36 fans... and my score is even lower. so yeah, this is flawed.

Everyone seems to recognize that the PopScore is flawed (very much including those on these pages who would gladly take a bullet for the PopScore). The questions, bickering, accusations, capital letters, and other emotional responses -- especially the Church of Jango pleas to "not worry about it" -- all stem from the same thing: cognitive dissonance caused by trying to reconcile Jango's assurance that the PopScore is sound with the knowledge -- reinforced each week -- that it isn't.

PopScore according to Jango: "the formula is pretty basic, positive actions (make 'em, become a fan, I like) minus negative actions (bream 'em, skip, don't play again) divided by the number of plays you receive. Then it is put into a percentile...top 1%, top 10% etc."

Jango: you should be embarrassed by using "math" that is so faulty ("basic") that even I have to put in quotes. To rank the artists that are your customers -- and to sell the PopScore as a Billboard-style chart -- is reckless, dishonest, and plain dumb. It's not very complicated math, and I'm happy to explain it to anyone (especially Jango). In fact, I challenge Jango to contradict the following statement:

The PopScore is invalid as a ranking system; by adhering to it, Jango continues to be unfair (if not misleading) to both its customers and advertisers/partners.

Show your work.

I WANT TO MENTION SOMETHING I JUST DID LAST NIGHT THAT THEY MENTIONED ON ONE OF THE BLOGS ON THE POPSCORE. NOT THAT THIS IS A NEW IDEA BUT IT HIT ME THAT I HAD BEEN RUNNING THE SAME SONG FOR AWHILE AND IVE NOTICED AND IT COULD BE A GLICHE ON JANGO PART BUT IVE BEEN GETTING REPEAT REQUESTS ON SOME ARTISTS SONGS THAT I ALREADY VOTED ON AS A LISTENER AND THIS MAY BE HAPPENING TO ME OR YOU GUYS. MEANING THIS. THAT ONE PERSON MAY HAVE ALREADY VOTED TO MAKE YOU BUT REFUSED TO VOTE AGAIN ON IT BUT DID NOT VOTE YOU DOWN. IN OTHER WORDS. NO VOTE CAN HURT YOU AS BAD AS A BAD VOTE. SO, I CHANGED MY CREDITS TO ANOTHER SONG AND GOT A HUGH SPURT OF FANS TODAY. ITS A THOUGHT AND LOOK INTO IT AND
NOT SURE IF YOU GUYS READ THIS LAST WEEK BUT WANTED TO REPOST INCASE. HOPEFULLY IT HELPS. YA NEVER KNOW

here's my question; there's no indication of how to tell where your ranked during the week, is there? Popscore is based on percentile, but is it directly related? if your score is 85, does that mean your in the top 15%? If not, what are the top 5 sitting on to have that position? I ask 'cause my band is sitting on 94 right now, and I don't know how well we're doing, based on that.

The PopScore indicates location -- it's not an index or measure of performance. The top scoring band(s) is designated "100". 94 is the closest whole number representing your ranking among all bands, relative to the top score. The PopScore tells you as much about all other bands' performance as it does yours: diddly squat.

Anybody else think it's messed up that Play Stats is offline for entire DAYS, just when bands need them most (i.e., popscore endgame)?
